Celebrating Curiosity on International Women & Girls in Science Day 👩‍🔬

Exploring the Water Cycle 🌧️

Recently, Year 4 have been diving into the fascinating journey of water as it moves through the environment. From evaporation and condensation to precipitation and collection, the children have been developing a strong understanding of the water cycle and how it shapes the world around us.

To bring their learning to life, the class was tasked with creating visual displays to demonstrate the process. The results were nothing short of brilliant! Through 3D models and imaginative designs, the children showcased not only their understanding of the scientific process but also their creativity and attention to detail.

It was wonderful to see each child interpret the cycle in their own unique way, reinforcing key concepts while taking ownership of their learning.

Investigating the Science of Hearing 👂

Another exciting topic explored in class has been the process of hearing. The children learned about the biology of the ear — from the outer ear capturing sound waves, to the inner ear transmitting signals to the brain. They discovered how sound travels and how we interpret the world around us through hearing.

To deepen their understanding, pupils were challenged to think about what might help us hear more clearly and were tasked with designing and creating their own devices to improve hearing. Through trial and error, discussion and collaboration, the children created some creative ways they could better enhance their hearing.

Learning Through Hands-On Discovery 💡

Hands-on learning plays a vital role in developing creative thinking and confidence. By experimenting, building and exploring, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, test ideas and embrace challenges.

It’s clear that this approach to learning is one our Year 4 pupils thoroughly enjoy. Their excitement, engagement and willingness to explore new ideas is evident.

Looking Ahead: A Proud Step in Our Co-Ed Journey

As we celebrate girls in science today, it feels especially meaningful as we continue our exciting journey as a co-educational school. We are incredibly proud of our recent move and are so pleased to now have girls within our senior department.

Welcoming girls into our senior years has brought new energy, new perspectives and a strengthened sense of community across the school. Seeing girls confidently engage in subjects like Science –– experimenting, questioning and leading discussions — is a powerful reflection of the inclusive and forward-thinking environment we are building.

Our co-ed move represents more than a structural change; it reflects our commitment to opportunity, equality and preparing all of our pupils to thrive in the wider world.

We look forward to watching all of our pupils — girls and boys alike — continue to explore, innovate and grow together.

Here’s to inspiring the next generation of scientists 🌍✨
