Admissions Process
King’s House School is an independent preparatory school and nursery in Richmond for children aged 3 to 13, serving families from across areas of Surrey and South West London including Twickenham, Chiswick and Barnes. As part of our transition to co-education, girls joined Reception and Year 1 in September 2024. In September 2025 they will also be able to join Year 7, as well as Nursery to Year 2.
The main points of entry to the school are in the Nursery (2+), Reception (4+) and Year 3 (7+) and Year 7 (11+). Spaces do also sometimes become available in other year groups throughout the school: get in touch to find out about availability.
The admissions process varies by year group, and more information is given below. Further information can be found in our Admissions Policy.
The typical admissions process is:
- Contact Us
All prospective families can contact the Registrar, Mrs Sally Bass, on admissions@kingshouseschool.org or 020 8940 1878, or complete the enquiry form below to find out more about applying to King’s House School.
- Visit Us
Families can book their place at an upcoming Open Morning by contacting admissions or completing the form here. You are also warmly invited to attend a private tour of the School with the Head, which you can book by contacting the Registrar. These open events provide an opportunity for you to meet pupils, staff and see the school in action.
Ducklings Toddler Group also runs on Wednesday afternoons in term time, and provide the opportunity for you to meet local families and chat to our teachers. Please click here to book a session.
- Register Your Child
To proceed with an application, please complete the registration form and pay the £100 registration fee to register your child for King’s House School or Nursery.
- Accept an Offer
If an offer of a place has been made, we then kindly ask families to complete the acceptance form and pay the relevant deposit to accept the place. The deposit is £750 for the Nursery, £3,500 for the Junior Department and £4,000 for the Senior Department.
Entry to the Nursery
Applications for Nursery places can be made at any time from birth onwards and all applicants will be placed on a waiting list. Girls and boys may start in the Nursery as rising 3s in the Hedgehog Class; usually in the term of their third birthday. In the September following their third birthday they will move up to either Squirrels or Rabbits Pre-Reception Class as rising 4s, and several more places become available at this point.
All children in the Nursery are automatically offered a place in Reception at King’s House School.
Entry to Reception
Reception places are offered a year and a half before entry to children in our Nursery, siblings and then in order of date of registration. Girls will be able to join Reception for the first time from September 2024 as we move to co-education. We are a mixed-ability school and do not formally assess pupils before offering them a place in Reception.
Other Intakes
We also have small intakes at 7+, 8+ and 11+ into Years 3, 4 and 7 (usually up to approximately 6 places). Pupils wishing to enter at this stage are assessed in English and Maths in either November or January, and then interviewed prior to entry.
There are occasionally places available in other year groups, so please do get in touch with us.
What is the admissions process for 11+ applicants in September 2025?
Both boys and girls will be able to join King’s House in September 2025. The 11+ admissions process will involve the following:Â
- Parents and their children visit King’s House for a tour of the school.
- Parents can then register their children online here: https://kingshouseschool.org/admissions/register/Â
- An assessment and activity morning will take place for pupils on Tuesday 8th October. This will involve an informal interview, a short INCAS test, team building and subject-based activities, and provide an opportunity for the pupils to get to know each other.
- We would then ask prep schools for reports and any relevant existing testing data, before making 11+ offers before October Half Term.
- An additional assessment date in January 2025 will also be available for later applicants.
Please contact Sally Bass on admissions@kingsouseschool.org or 020 8940 1878 for more information.Â
