Entry to King’s House School

King’s House School is an independent day preparatory schools for boys aged 3 to 13 with a co-educational Nursery in Richmond, Surrey.

There are two main points of entry into King’s House; the Nursery, and Reception in the Junior Department.

The process for applying to each of these year groups is slightly different, and a brief outline is given below. Further information can be found in our Admissions Policy.

Entry to the Nursery

Applications for Nursery places can be made at any time from birth onwards and all applicants will be placed on a waiting list. Girls and boys may start in the Nursery as rising 3s in the Caterpillar Class, moving to the Butterfly Class as rising 4s.

Entry to Reception

Reception places are offered approximately one year before entry to boys in our Nursery, siblings and then in order of date of registration. Half of our Reception intake is made up of boys coming from our Nursery.

Boys are expected to stay at King’s House until the end of Year 8, before moving on to their Senior School.

Parents who take up the offer of a place are required to complete an Acceptance Contract and pay a committal fee, which will be returned when their child leaves King’s House, less any extras.

We are a mixed-ability school and do not formally assess the boys before offering them a place in Reception.

Other Intakes

We also have small intakes at 7+, 8+ and 11+ into Years 3, 4 and 7 (usually up to approximately 6 places). Boys wishing to enter at this stage are assessed in English and Maths in either November or January, and then interviewed prior to entry.

There are occasionally places available in other year groups, so please do get in touch with us.
