About Us

King’s House School was founded in 1946 and has since grown to a prep school of over 400 children. The co-ed Nursery opened in 2009, and in September 2024 girls will join Reception and Year 1 for the first time.

We are proud of the breadth of our curriculum: the broad and balanced all-round education King’s House provides children with the skills and mental resilience to succeed in their next steps in life. Each pupil is able to discover their unique talents and passions, be it on the sports field, performing on stage, in the classroom or much more.

Our pupils go on to a wide range of day, boarding, single sex and co-ed schools at 11 and 13, and we work closely with families to make sure each child goes on to the right senior school for them.

Students are taught by a team of experienced teachers, working together to meet the needs of each child. Our staff team are enthusiastic and dedicated, inspiring the very best standards of their pupils.

King’s House aims to develop our pupils’ sense of awareness in the world around them, instilling a respect for our environment and aiming to play a role in the local and global community. Led by the Year 8 Charity Ambassadors, each year the pupils choose a charity to support and raise money for. In 2021-22 we raised over £4,000 for Skylarks, a local charity who support children with disabilities and additional needs. We were recently awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag, an international accreditation which acknowledges, rewards and celebrates young people’s environmental actions. In November 2023 King’s House was also awarded the IQM’s (Inclusion Quality Mark) Inclusive School Award, which recognises the school’s efforts to be inclusive and their ongoing commitment to provide the very best education for all children.

There is no better way to see if a school is right for your child than by visiting them – and so we hope that you’ll come and discover the King’s House community at an Open Morning or tour!

“Pupils across the school demonstrate a well-established sense of social responsibility and carry out leadership and teamwork roles with confidence and aplomb.” – ISI Inspection Report 2023

We are a mixed ability school at Nursery and Reception, catering to pupils with a range of abilities. Pupils are well prepared for the transition to senior schools, and in their final two years take on leadership roles, developing a sense of responsibility.
