A Day In The Nursery

We have two year groups at King’s House Nursery, across three classes: Hedgehogs for rising 3s, and Squirrels or Rabbits for rising 4s. Children generally join Hedgehogs in the term they turn 3, and Squirrels/Rabbits is the pre-Reception year group. Both groups have varied and exciting days, with a balance of free-flow, adult led and child-initiated activities, as well as phonics, learning and play.

Children in the Nursery benefit from the school’s facilities and specialist teachers, including Music, Computing, PE, Drama, and French, and you can take a look at an example timetable below.

We are a term-time pre-school, with Hedgehogs attending 5 mornings, and the option to stay for lunch until 1pm. Squirrels/Rabbits Classes attend 5 mornings, with the option to stay for afternoons until 2.45pm, following by after school care until 6pm.

Wraparound Care

From September 2024, Squirrels and Rabbits Class will be able to stay on in after school care until 6pm. Early Birds is also available from 8am for all children.

We are delighted to be partnering with Après-School to provide our after school care provision. Après-School are an Ofsted-registered specialist wraparound care provider and have many years’ experience creating a safe and nurturing environment for children beyond the school day.

Children in Squirrels/Rabbits will be walked from Nursery to the Junior Department for ASC at 3pm, with age-appropriate resources for them. Activities will be planned for children of all ages, including arts & crafts, sport and outdoor play, construction, and board games. The staff ratio will be 1:8 for Nursery children and 1:10 for children of school age. Children will all be provided with healthy snacks, often including fresh fruit, sandwiches, and raisins.

Holiday clubs usually also run during the October, Christmas, Easter and Summer breaks. These are dependent on staff availability and pupil numbers, with details on how to sign up sent to parents each half term.
