King’s House to welcome girls into both Reception and Year 1 from September 2024
King’s House, an independent day prep school for pupils aged 3 to 13, is delighted to be welcoming girls into both Reception and Year 1 for the first time from September 2024.
Following the announcement in March 2023 that girls would be welcomed into Reception from September 2024, the school received high levels of interest from parents to accelerate the transition to co-education. Following recent approval from the Board of Governors, King’s House is delighted to now be in a position to also admit girls into Year 1 in September 2024.
KHS was founded in 1946 and expanded in 2009 to include the co-ed King’s House Nursery. Girls will now be able to transition into the Reception Class for the first time in September 2024, as all children in the Nursery will be offered a place in Reception. This decision allows the girls joining Reception and Year 1 more opportunities to interact with each other, as they have timetable similarities such as break times and assemblies.
Head, Mark Turner, said: “We are delighted to be accelerating the transition to co-education as we enter this new phase in the school’s history. It provides the opportunity for both boys and girls to be able to benefit equally from our high-quality, broad and balanced education. A nurturing environment and excellent pastoral care remain at the heart of the King’s House community as we move to co-ed. We can’t wait to meet more prospective families over the coming months!”
Helen Lowe, who was previously Head of the Junior Department at King’s House before becoming Head of Bute House, a leading girls’ prep school in Hammersmith, is consulting on the move. Helen is assisting in areas such as staff training, changes to facilities and curriculum reviews, and said: “This news was music to my ears when the Head, Mark Turner, called to let me know the school’s plans. I am working closely with the school this year to review their curriculum, ensure that all aspects of school life provide equal opportunities and, on a more practical level, ensure the facilities are of the highest quality and girl-friendly. There is absolutely no question that the level of effort and work by the school will benefit all the pupils.”
Applications for boys and girls are now open and can be made by contacting the Registrar, Sally Bass, at admissions@kingshouseschool.org or 020 8940 1878.
