King’s House School accelerates the transition to co-education, welcoming girls into Year 7 from September 2025

Following a fantastic start to the transition to co-education with girls joining Reception and Year 1 this year, King’s House School is delighted that the Governing Board and Senior Management Team have given their approval for girls to join Year 7 from September 2025. King’s House is a prep school in Richmond, SW London, for children aged 2 to 13.

The school has received significant interest from parents of girls who are considering 13+ boarding options for senior school and would like their daughters to attend a local day school for Years 7 and 8. Therefore, from September 2025 girls will be able to join the Nursery (2+), Reception to Year 2, and Year 7. The school will also be continually monitoring interest in other year groups, such as Years 3 and 4, and ask any parents interested in this to get in touch.

Head of King’s House, Mark Turner, said: “This is a really exciting time for King’s House, and it’s been wonderful to see both girls and boys settling in so well to Reception and Year 1. We are delighted that girls will be able to join Year 7 next year, responding to parental demand and allowing girls to stay at a local day school that specialises in preparing children for the 13+ transition. We are looking forward to this next chapter in our history and the continued transition to co-ed.”

The decision to accept girls into Year 7 has once again been driven by requests from parents and the belief that co-education is the way forward for King’s House, shown in the significant number of pupils who now move onto co-ed senior schools at 11 and 13. The school believes that this will benefit all children and support families, particularly with the practical benefits of having their children in one school. Helen Lowe (former Head of Bute House and an educational consultant) will continue to work with King’s House on preparations and build on the successful start in the Nursery and Junior Department.

Prospective parents can book a tour of the school, and an early assessment and activity morning will take place on Tuesday 8th October for September 2025 11+ entry. Following this, the school will look to make offers by October Half Term.
