Celebrating International Day at King’s House
On Friday 3rd May the King’s House community came together to celebrate the inaugural International Day!
28 stalls were set up for all the children from Reception to Year 8 to visit, with countries represented across North and South America, Africa, Asia and Europe. Pupils tasted food and drink from across the world, learnt about traditional dress & costumes, and the history of different countries.
Year 4 also enjoyed Czech workshops, traditional Irish children’s stories were read to the Junior Department, and Mrs O’Brien demonstrated mehndi being drawn on her. The Nursery and Juniors enjoyed a Jamaican steel band – a highlight being them playing ‘Wheels on the Bus’! In assemblies across the school staff and pupils also spoke about their families cultures, including Indonesia, China, Romania, Spain and Ukraine.
A huge thank you to all the staff and parents who gave up their time to organise such a brilliant event, and thank you for sharing their culture with the school. We loved celebrating the diversity and unity of the KH community, and it gave pupils a unique opportunity to learn about different cultures, languages and traditions from around the world.
The day also raised a brilliant £2,011.13 for Dementia UK, our chosen charity for this year.
