Welcome to the King’s House School Senior Department, home to the boys from Years 4 to 8.
In their first year here, Year 4, the boys have a form base where they have their English and Maths lessons. They also start to take advantage of the wonderful facilities here and have some lessons in specialist rooms.
There are specialist Art and Design Technology rooms, two Computing suites, Science laboratories, a theatre, sports hall and many other subject specific rooms. There are three big outdoor play areas too.
In Year 5 the boys move to specialist classrooms and teachers for all subjects. As well as the traditional academic subjects the boys also have weekly lessons in Art, DT, Music, Computing, Drama and PE, plus two games sessions per week.
There is a great emphasis on being involved in different aspects of school life, and the boys are encouraged to make the most of every opportunity. Each year groups performs their own play, and so every boy an active role in drama. There are sports fixtures for the whole year group to take part in, with the core sports of football, rugby and cricket. Concerts and performances throughout the year provide a wide range of musical opportunities, and boys can also shine in Art and Design Technology. Each year group enjoys a residential trip away too – as well as many day outings to local places of interest.
Boys are well-prepared academically, and as they build up to entrance and pre-tests in Year 6, there is a greater emphasis on exam and interview practice and preparation.
In their final year, Year 8, all the boys take on positions of responsibility, including Prefect and mentoring Year 4 pupils.
