Return to matches!
In true English summer style, we finally got to play our first cricket fixtures at the school for almost two years last week and the weather was cold, overcast and fairly wet! However, this didn’t stop us. The U12 and U13 teams played against Northcote Lodge on Wednesday. We managed to complete 3 of the 5 matches and there were some notable performances. Daniel in the U13Bs kicked off the season in impressive style with 51 not out off 59 balls, whilst Luka (U13A) and Gabriel (U12A) both took 4 wickets. All the boys stuck to their task very well in some tricky conditions.
On Thursday, all the U10s travelled to Danes Hill for their first games of cricket in the Senior Department. Every team played in a pairs format game and all the teams played some fantastic cricket. They can be really proud of their start to the season. Two particular highlights were Peter picking up 2 wickets in an over in his first ever game of cricket, and Ru smashing a huge 6 in his game for the B team.
The U11A team were involved in a thrilling Surrey Cup game on Friday against Hall Grove, after 20 overs the scores were tied and so in World Cup final style we went to a super over! Sadly the boys just fell short, but it was a brilliant way to start the season. All of the U11s also played on Tuesday this week against KCJS in some great matches. Tuesday also saw three of our U10 teams play against Parkside, the highlight of the games was George scoring a powerful 78*.
Captain of cricket Jack smashed 74* and was accompanied by a brutal 68 from James in the U13A’s game against Downsend this week. Sadly most of the U12 and U13 games were curtailed by the rain, although the U12As did manage to finish a shortened game which went right down to the final over. The U13A also played their first Surrey Cup game on Thursday, batting first at Hoe Bridge they smashed 200 for 1 in their 20 overs. James continued his fine form with 87* and Luka scored his first half century of the season with an excellent 59*. An excellent bowling display restricted Hoe Bridge to 123 for 9. A fine all round display!
It has been fantastic to see the boys out playing fixtures again, we just need the sunshine to return now!
