Friends of King’s House
The Association of the Friends of King’s House is the parents’ association here at King’s House and acts as a social and fundraising body. All parents are automatically members.
Our aim is to enhance the community life of King’s House and its families. Primarily, we work to put on social events throughout the year, both for parents and the pupils of the school. These events support the close-knit and happy community that King’s House is, as well as giving the children a sense that their school life is important and embraces the whole family.
We of course help raise money, to assist in providing extra equipment, activities and other facilities to the school beyond the scope of the normal budget. In addition we also raise funds to support local charities.
The events we run currently are the hugely popular annual Autumn Quiz Night in October and the Summer and Christmas Fairs. We have recently introduced a Family Quiz in the spring term, and the King’s House Camp Out at the Sports Ground in June has become a regular fixture. This year we are trialling a Senior Department Christmas Drinks Party to bring together parents from Years 4-8.
Since 2005, FOKHS have raised over £200,000 and invested in all areas of the school, covering all age groups. In 2016/17, we contributed to the fabulous new playground in the Junior Department, as well as purchasing further iPads to be used across the school. We support all the departments in a variety of ways – previous projects have included funding violins for all Year 2 boys as part of their music lessons, a video camera for recording school performances, nursery playground equipment, microscopes, a laser cutter and contributions to the new cricket nets at the sports ground. Alongside physical items we have also funded outside speakers and workshops to come in to King’s House; the boys have enjoyed talks from Paralympian Ade Adepitan as well as several authors for World Book Day, plus music and puzzle workshops.
The Friends Association is run by a committee of parents and teachers and currently comprises 13 parent members and two teachers, including our head Mr Turner and Miss Kerrison-Davey from the Junior department. Each academic year several members of the Committee finish their tenure and so we are always interested to hear from people who might be interested in joining the Committee.
You would be involved in planning and running fundraising activities for the Friends Committee and could take on a specific role including: Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Merchandise and Form Rep liaison. Many of the Committee work on teams that focus on one particular event that we put on. We usually have two evening meetings a term to think up and plan forthcoming events, and provide input on how funds raised are spent.
If you are interested in joining please contact me on my email address below. We have a constitution and principles for how funds are used, which are available on request.
It is really helpful to receive feedback from parents regarding past events and also suggestions for future events. If you have any comments that you would like to pass on to the Committee, please do get in touch.
