The Year 1 boys were treated by Mrs Margetson, Max’s mum, to a wonderful presentation about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah. She told them how Jewish people celebrate this important festival around the same time as Christmas. They learned that Hanukkah is the festival of light, remembering the time the oil nearly ran out when the Temple was destroyed.
During this special time, Jewish people light a menorah, a type of candelabra with nine candleholders. One candle is lit every day for eight days; the ninth candle is used to light each one. The boys also had great fun playing the Dreidel game using chocolates for their winnings!
