Friends Of King’s House

The Association of the Friends of King’s House is the parents’ association here at King’s House and acts as a social and fundraising body. All parents are automatically members.

Our aim is to provide a meeting point for parents and friends and arrange social events, which helps to bind our school community together and help give the children a sense that their school life is important and involves the whole family.

We of course help raise money, to assist in providing extra equipment, activities and other facilities to the school beyond the scope of the normal budget. In addition, we also raise funds to support local charities.

The main events we run are the hugely popular annual Autumn Quiz Night in October, the Summer Fete in June, a Spring Sports Event (in the past 2 years this included a parent-child tennis tournament and fun run at the school’s fantastic sports ground).

In the past 7 years we have been able to fund over £125,000 worth of projects and activities, covering all age groups. These projects range from sports to music and theatre, recently including violins to enable all year 2 boys to try a musical instrument, a video camera for recording school performances, portable basketball hoops, a Wendy House for the nursery, music software for the IT suite, microscopes, contributions to the new cricket nets at the sports ground, a school-wide Maths Day, visits from Paralympian Ade Adepitan, visits from authors for World Book Day, a new sports surface for the senior department playground, smart table in the junior departments and contributions to the new banks of iPad’s and the refurbishment of the Senior library.

The Friends Association is run by a committee of parents and teachers and currently comprises 15 parent members and 2 teachers, including our head Mr Turner and Mrs Steel from the Junior department. Each academic year several members of the Committee finish their tenure on the Committee and so we are always interested to hear from people who might be interested in joining the Committee.

You would be involved in organising and running fundraising activities for the Friends Committee and could take on a specific role on the Committee, including: Chairing the Committee, Treasury, Secretary, Catering, Bar Co-Ordination, Web-site management, Merchandise and Form Rep liaison. We have a maximum of 2 to 3 one-hour evening meetings a term to plan and seek help for forthcoming events, and provide input on how funds raised are spent.

If you are interested in joining please contact me on my email address below. We have a constitution and principles for how funds are used, which are available on request.

It is really helpful to receive feedback from parents regarding past events and also suggestions for future events. If you have any comments that you would like to pass on to the Committee, please feel free to e-mail me as well.
